Check out Excerpt 3 of Shame…

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you are enjoying Shame.  It is a book that is near and dear to my heart, because it was the first book I ever finished.  Hopefully, you will love it as much as I do.

Excerpt 3

Her fingers clenched at her sides as she returned his insolent stare.  It was hard to believe that this was the same man she would have done anything for once upon a time.  She had been through hell and back for him, and he couldn’t even wait a few seconds for her to join him.  Well, she wasn’t that girl anymore and she would not allow him to intimidate her.  Now was as good a time as any to make him aware of that.

David stared at her.  The girl he remembered tagging along after him was a woman now.  The evidence of that was right in front of him.  The years had definitely ripened her figure.  Her curves were lush and seeing the swell of her breasts beneath her shirt only served to remind him of the many times they had filled his hands.  The rounded curve of her bottom seemed to beg for attention.  His hands clenched as he tried to stop the urge to touch her.  Her hair was pulled in a severe style secured with a gold barrette.

He had always liked it hanging loose around her shoulders.

Memories of it spreading across his chest assaulted him.

He mentally shook himself.

Thinking about the past wouldn’t change it.

And it certainly wouldn’t change what she did.

He held her bag in front of him in part to hide the burgeoning erection that was forming.  He would never understand how he could still want her after all these years, after all she had done to him.

He walked toward her stopping to drop the bag in front of her.

“I can take you.  Or you can walk.  It’s your choice.”

She glared up at him defiantly.  “I guess that it was too much to hope for that you might have actually learned some manners since I’ve been gone,” she replied, throwing her bag over her shoulder.

She tried to push past him, but he grabbed her arm effectively halting her escape.

“Your mother is expecting me to bring you back, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,” he replied anger flashing across his eyes.  He led her toward the hallway keeping an iron grip on her arm.

Pulling out of his grasp, she muttered under her breath.  “Let me go.”

He took the bag from her, flinging it carelessly over his shoulder as he walked ahead.

Alex stared after him for a moment, before realizing that once again he had effectively succeeded in getting his way.  She had no choice but to follow him, even though she hated to have to give in to him.  When he reached the door to his black pickup truck he abruptly stopped and pulled his door open, shoving her bag inside, before turning to her.

She stared at him across the cab.  “Give me my bag, David,” she demanded obstinately.

He slid into the passenger seat, refusing to respond.

Her anger at a full boil now, she tapped on the passenger door.  “David.”

Reaching over, he unlocked the door.  When she reached in to grab her bag, he stopped her with a restraining hand on her arm.

“Get in the car, Alex,” he instructed.

She was just about to say no when she saw the look in his eyes.

“Just let me take you home,” he said softly.

She wanted to tell him to go to hell, but the look he gave her made her acquiesce.  She slid into the cab next to him, her bag the only barrier between them.

He said he wanted to take her home.

            But she knew the truth.

            Home was gone.

And she would never be able to go back.
