Want to change your life?

Hi Everyone,

I know that I have been a little MIA lately on my blogs.  I have been dealing with few unexpected things that have taken up a lot of my energy.   But I do apologize.  I will try to do better.

For Christmas I gave out a few gifts that I made and it got me thinking about the new year.  One of them was an affirmation box that I made for a friend of mine.  I made a box and filled it with decorative pieces of paper with affirmations and challenges for the next year.  These challenges were things like “try a food that you have never had.  Experience the different flavors of life.”   Or “Express yourself in a creative way you have never tried.  Be it crafts, painting, writing, etc.  Let your inner colors come out.”  The object of this box would be that each day you would pull out a card and do what was on the card.  The point of the box is to open your mind to new ideas and to open yourself to new experiences.

The more that I thought about the box, the more I realized how important these concepts are.  It is important to open ourselves up to new ideas.  When we do, it makes everything in our lives that much richer.  I never really realized it but the more I thought about it I think that is one of the things that I have tried to incorporate into my novels.  Each of my characters has to open their mind to new things with an open heart.  We can’t stay stuck in old patterns and beliefs.  If we do that, we are not growing as human beings.  We have to stay open to what is out there.

I know that that may sound like a BIG concept that will be hard to incorporate into our every day lives, especially when many of us have demanding schedules with kids, jobs, etc.  But it really doesn’t have to be.  We can start small.  A food we have never tried could be a fruit or vegetable we have never had.  Trying new things also keeps our brain energized.  If we are always stuck in the same pattern, our brain can get tired.  It is important that we keep ourselves excited about life.

Look around you.   How many people in your life would you say are truly happy?  A lot of us are working at jobs we need just to pay the bills.  Our daily lives are filled with “have to’s” not “want to’s.”  I say that 2011 should be the year of Want to.

So, in honor of that, I will be giving out affirmations or challenges on my blog!  I promise to do it if you do!  I would love to hear about your experiences and I will detail my experiences too.  Together we can change our lives!

So for the first challenge we are going to do something hard but important:  Let go of one thing from your past.  Remember, it is a part of your past but it does not have to be a part of your present or your future.

I will detail my own experience in the next few days.   And, as I said, I would love to hear some of your experiences as well.

Until then,

Shauna Hart
